Professional Experience

Biography Brief

Prof. I-Chi Lee is currently a Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Environmental Sciences at National Tsing Hua University. She earned her Ph.D. from the Department of Biomedical Engineering at National Taiwan University in 2007. Following her doctoral studies, she worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Genomics Research Center, Academia Sinica, Taiwan. She then joined the Graduate Institute of Biomedical Engineering at Chang Gung University, where she successively served as an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor before transitioning to National Tsing Hua University.

Prof. Lee's research focuses on biomaterials, tissue engineering, and drug delivery. She has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles and authored two books (ISBN: 978-1634858786 and ISBN-13: 978-0367655457). Her contributions have been recognized with multiple research awards in Taiwan, including the Ta-You Wu Memorial Award in 2018. Her current research includes neural stem cell regulation, organ-on-chip models, cancer-on-chip models, and microneedle-based drug delivery systems for cancer therapy. She has significantly advanced the understanding of the microenvironment of stem cells and cancer stem cells. Recently, she has focused on translating this knowledge into the development of organ-on-chip and in vitro disease models. Notably, she has established brain-on-chip and Alzheimer’s-on-chip models, which provide viable alternatives to bridge animal studies and preclinical testing. Additionally, Prof. Lee collaborates with Chang Gung Hospital on developing microneedle patches for transdermal drug delivery and cell therapy applications. Over the next five years, she aims to further develop a series of in vitro models, including organ-on-chip and tumor-on-chip systems, contributing to precision medicine, personalized medicine, and the reduction of animal testing.
